Nellie Barge of Carlyle, formerly of Belleville died Sunday September 14, 2008 at the Carlyle Healthcare Center at the age of 87 years. She was born in Hamadan, Iran on January 24, 1921 the daughter of Sam and Mary (Badel) Benjamin. Mrs. Barge married Herbert H. Barge in Chicago, Illinois on October 18, 1941, he preceded her in death on September 20,2007.

        Nellie is survived by a daughter: Gwen Gehrs and husband Gale of Beckemeyer, IL; a son: Larry Barge of Nashville, TN.; a sister: Ozella Gresham of Springhill, LA.; 8 grandchildren: Ronda Bierman and husband Danny, Tona Holle and husband Wayne, James Gehrs and wife Angela, Wayne Gehrs and special friend Angie, Lisa Gehrs, Melissa Garrett and husband Mike, Jeffrey Barge and wife Alison, and Lauren Barge. Nellie also has 14 great grandchildren, and 4 great -great grandchildren.

     Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 sister; Nora Benjamin, and Lily George, and 1 brother; Robert Benjamin.
 

Mrs. Barge retired from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where she worked as a nurses aid for 35 years. She was also a member of the Assembly of God Church in Villa Hills.

       Funeral Services for Mrs. Barge will be Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Wes Hart officiating. The interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Carlyle.
Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

      Expressions of sympathy may be made in Mrs. Barge’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the family.
