Adolph P. “Bosco” List, 97, of Carlyle returned to God on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Caring First Nursing Home in Breese.

He was born August 8, 1911 in Carlyle, the youngest child of Andrew and Lena (Guth) List. On May 22, 1940 he married Adele M. Isaak at St. Mary Church in Carlyle.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 68 years: Adele; his children: Roger (Sue) List of Aurora, Colorado, Lydia (William) Nehrt Sr. of Centralia, Kathleen (Leon) Dagg of Centralia, and Rosann (Norman) Horstmann of Damiansville; 6 grandchildren: Nikki (Ryan) Harrell, Colyn (Flor) List, Adam and Mark Nehrt, Meghann (Emmitt) Talkington and Justin Horstmann; step grandchildren: Mike (Dawn) Nehrt and Billy (Rhonda) Nehrt Jr.; and 7 step great grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Celeste List; and many nieces and nephews.

Bosco was preceded in death by his parents: Andrew and Lena List; his father and mother-in-law: Frank and Christine Isaak; sisters: Ludena Diekemper and Leona Wickman; brother: Edward List; brothers-in-law: Ben Diekemper, John Wickman and Alphonse Isaak; sister-in-law: Rowena Isaak; son-in-law: Tom Vore, and nephews Dan Litteken, Don Krebs and Ralph Fleshren.

Bosco was a mechanic extra ordinaire. He was the owner of List Motor Sales in Carlyle. He also owned and operated Southside Motors, Air Park Drive Inn in Highland, List Amusements where he operated a gas-engine Train and car ride, Valu-Mart Store in Carlyle and List Antique Cars. Throughout the years he was employed by Jennings Automotive in Centralia and Kirchhoffer Motors in Nashville. During WWII he was in charge of collecting tires for the war effort and drove a tow truck.

Bosco was a member of St. Mary Church in Carlyle where he served as an usher for 60 years. He was a life-long member of Catholic Holy Family Society #19, the Holy Name Society, the Carlyle Knights of Columbus Council 1382, the Clinton County Farm Bureau, the Studebaker Clubs of Illinois and Missouri and was a contributor to the “Turning Wheels” newsletter for that Club.

Bosco never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with everyone. He truly loved his life’s work and maintained his business into his 90's. Bosco also enjoyed attending area car shows and won many trophies for his entries. He gave his children and great niece and nephews a strong work ethic beginning with their participation in the amusement business where they worked many local parish picnics and area festivals.

 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary Church with Fr. George Mauck officiating. The interment will at St. Mary Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle Friday from 4 to 8:00 P.M. or Saturday from 8 to 9:30 A.M. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at St. Mary Church Friday at 7:00 P.M.
