Lorraine A. Higgins of rural Carlyle died Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO at the age of 88 years. She was born in Breese, IL on May 29, 1921 the daughter of Anthony and Rose Ann (Moss) Sommers. Lorraine married Elmer R. Higgins on June 24, 1939 in University City, MO and he preceded her in death on November 16, 1984.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; a daughter: Sharon Jackson; a grandson: Rod Redman; and brothers and sisters: Joane Kohm, Florence Rodgers, Elizabeth "Betty" Logsdon, Lawrence Sommers, Lavern Sommers and Rosemarie Sommers.

Lorraine is survived by her children: Violet Redman and husband William of Katy, Texas, Kathy Schaefer and husband Lee of Carlyle, Ray Higgins and wife Dorothy of Keyesport, Delbert Higgins and wife Pat of Carlyle and Elmer Higgins and wife Sue of Pocahontas; fifteen grandchildren: Jason Redman, Lisa (Tony) Staudenmaier, Jeff (Annette) Higgins, Kent (Jennifer) Higgins, Kelli Higgins, Daniel Jackson, Gary Jackson, Mark Jackson, Leslie Lucas and special friend Bob Wright, Delbert Higgins, Carrie (Chris) Gross, Christopher (Melissa) Higgins, Michael (Margo) Higgins, Heath Schaefer and Seth Schaefer; a sister: Norma Wiebler of Carlyle; and two brothers: Joseph Sommers and wife Mary of Trenton and Urban Sommers of Carlyle.

Mrs. Higgins was a member of St. Mary Church in Carlyle and enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo and being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck officiating. The interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle on Wednesday from 4 to 8:00 P.M. or on Thursday from 8 until 9:30 A.M.

The family suggests memorials to the charity of the donors choice and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle which is serving the family.
